About Us

The Old Rectory was built in 1896 to house the Rev. Richard Seaver, the then minister of St. John's, Malone, and his family. It was designed by Henry Seaver, brother of the minister, and the architect responsible for the Church of St. John's itself.

When first built the house was sited in green fields with unobstructed views of the Belfast mountains. Although you can still see the mountains, the area is now a leafy residential suburb close to the many amenities that Belfast has to offer.

The Old Rectory is located one and a half miles from the city centre and the Grand Opera House. It is close to the Lyric Theatre and is convenient to Belfast's Botanic area - with a plethora of bars and restaurants and within a stones throw of Queen's University of Belfast.

We are ten minutes walk from the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI).

Positioned on a main arterial route in south Belfast The Old Rectory is convenient to the M1 and M2 motorways, The Kings Hall, Balmoral Conference Centre, Lagan Valley Regional Park and the excellent shopping at the Lisburn Road.

We are an NITB 'Grade A' registered guest house and winners of the Aga-Rayburn 2005/6 Best Breakfast Award. As well as this we have been recommended in The Michelin Accommodation Guide,The Bridgestone Guide, Georgina Campbells Jameson Guide, Fodor Ireland, Stillwell Bed and Breakfast Guide, Rick Steven's Ireland, Irish Bed and Breakfast - Sullivan and Bed and Breakfast Ireland - Dillard and Causin.

We are a member company of Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau and Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
